Giunge su Mac App Store una nuova applicazione per OS X che permette di gestire e configurare simultaneamente più dispositivi con cuore iOS. È denominata Apple Configurator ed è disponibile per il download gratuito; sarà particolarmente utile per gestire la distribuzione di iPhone, iPod touch e iPad in un’azienda, una scuola o un’istituzione.
Apple Configurator consente di configurare e aggiornare velocemente fino a trenta dispositivi iOS alla volta, nonché gestirli in maniera completa ad esempio scegliendo determinate impostazioni per tutti, installare applicazioni di stampo aziendale, per studenti o per clienti. Insomma una rapida scorciatoia per supervisionare simultaneamente quei dispositivi che grandi organizzazioni e imprese posseggono, offrendo tra l’altro all’amministratore la possibilità di gestirli da remoto.

Sono tre i flussi di lavoro che permettono di preparare i device iOS per scuole, aziende o istitutuzioni. Ogni dispositivo viene registrato con una soluzione “Mobile Device Management” così che l’amministratore, nel gestirlo, sappia con certezza di quale prodotto si stia parlando e a chi sia stato assegnato; funzionalità che dunque potrebbe rivelarsi particolarmente utile in ambito scolastico o nei laboratori, quando i device devono essere ripristinati o tenuti aggiornati.
Non manca comunque la possibilità, grazie alla feature appena menzionata, di personalizzare un unico dispositivo con dati e documenti specifici, così come quella di aggiungere utenti e gruppi manualmente o automaticamente tramite Open Directory o Active Directory. Apple Configurator è disponibile gratuitamente tramite il Mac App Store, richiede Mac OS X 10.7.2 e 15.8 MB di spazio per l’installazione.
